Hisoka is the newest member of the Shinigami, and one of the youngest at only age 16. He has empathic abilities, both in life and in death.
The empath abilities allow him to read the emotions and sometimes the thoughts of other people around him. This ability has made his life
hard, as he has no real control over it and it can send him into emotional overload. So to keep himself from doing so, he has kept a distance
from people to try to minimize damage to himself.
In life, Hisoka was the child of a traditional and old family who could trace their heritage back through samurai warriors, and they were very proud of this. But because of Hisoka's empathic abilities, his family saw him as a disgrace and a monster. He spent most of his life locked away in a cell. They must have allowed him out once he was older, because one night he was wandering the grounds of his home when he stumbled across Muraki murdering a woman under a Sakura tree. Muraki knew he could not let the boy escape, but didn't want to kill him. So he (supposedly) raped Hisoka, and carved a curse into his skin which slowly tortured him to death for three long years. Even in death, the cursed markings still appear on his body.
Also because of his heritage, Hisoka is one of the only Shinigami fully trained in the martial arts and swordsmanship. His personality is cold and he's smart-mouthed, but eventually warms up to having Tsuzuki as a partner and as a friend.
